Itinerary

His Majesty The King Charles III came to Highgrove in 1980 and the house and gardens have since undergone many thoughtful innovations. When His Majesty first arrived, Highgrove possessed little more than a neglected kitchen garden, an overgrown copse, some pastureland and a few hollow oaks.

Today, after the hard work of many people, an interlinked series of gardens now unfolds in a succession of personal and inspiring tableaux, each reflecting HM The King’s interests and enthusiasms. Above all, Highgrove is the family home of Their Majesties The King Charles III and The Queen Camilla.

The Gardens

There is much to discover in this extraordinary collection, a garden over 35 years in the making, created with passion, vision and dedication by HM The King Charles III. The King has devoted much energy to transforming the gardens around the house, which are renowned as some of the most inspiring and innovative in the United Kingdom. The gardens encapsulate the unique ambience of Highgrove and showcase its rich variety of landscaping and flora and fauna.

Guided tour

The 1½-hour garden tour will be led by one of Highgrove’s experienced guides. In addition to revealing the gardens’ history, organic management and sources of inspiration, they will explain the hidden curios and horticultural innovations behind them.

Tours are capped at 25 people so that everyone can hear what the knowledgeable Guides are saying as they talk about the garden’s history and development. Groups leave at 30-minute intervals to make sure you don’t bump into another group during your visit making you feel like you are the only people in the garden.

Enjoy a delicious Cream Tea

After the tour you will be ready for your delicious cream tea served in The Orchard Room. Dietary requirements are catered for.

The Highgrove Estate Shop

The relocation of the Highgrove Estate Shop is now complete. At the end of the tour you can visit the Estate Shop where you can browse a wide range of artisan products, from beautiful home and garden ware to country attire and artwork by His Majesty The King.

Highgrove is the private home of Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort. You will need to show a form of photographic ID, ideally a passport, driving licence or bus pass.
Due to the landscape and nature of the Gardens, wheelchairs and mobility scooters should be the type well suited to rough, uneven ground, gravel and rugged pathways. Some surfaces may also be slippery when wet. We suggest wearing sturdy shoes or wellington boots and suitable outdoor clothing, especially in wet weather.

Travel arrangements

The coach will leave Shrewsbury approximately at 08.30 and return about 18.00. We will have a comfort stop en-route. Exact timings for the trip will be confirmed 7-days before travel.

Booking your place

We expect tickets to be £118.00 per person, subject to Highgrove confirming prices for 2024. This includes coach travel, entry into the garden and guided tour and cream tea.

Tour Information

A visit to Highgrove Gardens, the private residence of King Charles III, is always a special occasion.

Highgrove is a very popular destination with many customers making return visits to see the garden at different times of the year. We aim to book tickets for May, when the azaleas and rhododendrons will be out and the wild flower meadow will be doing its thing.

New for 2024 is that tickets will automatically include the most delicious cream tea which is served in The Orchard. Dietary requirements are catered for.
