Itinerary

Nestling in the Snowdonian foothills of North Wales, Bodnant Garden was established in 1874. With its hillside setting the garden’s 80 acres drop dramatically from manicured lawns and grand, flower-filled terraces, through buzzing wildflower meadows and shrub-filled glades, into awe-inspiring dells of water gardens and towering trees.

Cared for by the National Trust since 1949, Bodnant is a garden of firsts – home to the earliest and grandest laburnum arch built in 1880, to Britain’s earliest magnolias introduced from China in the late 1800s, and to unique rhododendron hybrids which were born and bred here from the 1920s.

Bodnant Garden is famed as the finest rose garden in Wales with its five formal Italianate terraces, designed and built in the new Arts and Crafts style between 1904 and 1914. There is also the collection of UK Champion Trees to admire, exotic plants such as the Blue Poppy of the Himalayas, the Fire Bush of the Andes, and five National Collections of Magnolia, Embothrium, Eucryphia, Rhododendron forrestii and Bodnant Rhododendron Hybrids.

When you need some refreshments visit Pavilion or Magnolia tea-rooms offering a menu of hot and cold light bites, lunches, cakes, bakes and drinks.

If you have the time be sure to visit Bodnant Garden Centre, Bodnant Art Gallery & Craft Centre are by the entrance to the National Trust gardens and sell an excellent range of plants and a diverse range of gifts, books, country clothing and specially commissioned souvenirs of Bodnant Garden.

We plan to depart Shrewsbury at approximately 09.30 and return to Shrewsbury around 18.30. Exact timings will be confirmed 7-days before travel.

Booking your place

The cost for the day £60 per person for National Trust Members and £75 per person for non-members, including return coach travel with the fabulous Lakeside Coaches and entry into Bodnant Garden.

A deposit non-refundable deposit of £20 per person is payable when booking. Full payment is due 10 weeks before departure.

This is one of our favourite ‘go to’ National Trust destinations and it is a favourite with customers too. With intimate corners, sweeping lawns, grand terraces and verdant woodland, there are many gardens in one at Bodnant.

If nature is kind to us and the seasons are on schedule we will see the beautiful laburnum arch, a dazzling 55-metre pergola walkway of golden flowers!
